Mary Shah: Licensed Master Social Worker, Behavioral Therapist and Autism Consultant
The Northport Wellness Center is pleased to announce that Mary Shah, licensed master social worker, behavioral therapist and autism consultant, has joined our professional team.
As the Northport Wellness Center works to heal and recover many children on the autism spectrum, Mary’s presence at our facility is one to celebrate, as she brings with her not only her expert knowledge and skills but a gentle disposition and genuine passion for helping families and their children with special needs.
Mary Shah is passionate about helping children with special needs reach their full potential, as well as helping their caregivers learn to better communicate with their children so that they can be partners in their child’s healing process.
How can Mary help your child?
Consultants are typically in charge of behavioral programming. Mary will base her reccomendations on Applied Behavior Analysis technologies and then present you with strategies for communicating and interacting with your child.
As an objective party on your child’s therapeutic team, Mary will work with you and your child to accomplish the following:
- conduct assessments
- write and read reports
- set goals for therapy
- provide training and troubleshooting for home programs
- offer professional support and advocation for you and your child
Mary began her career working with children with special needs at DDI and has since worked at Columbia Medical Center. She has also worked in Early Intervention, CPSE and CSE, providing therapy, training and support to young children and their families.
Mary has extensive training in ABA, including Verbal Behavior, Advanced training and knowledge in autism educational strategies, ABA, Picture Exchange Communication Systems, functional communication, visual strategies, functional behavioral analysis, etc.
Mary is available to provide therapy, consultations, workshops, and advocacy services, behavior modification techniques, IEP/IFSP support and help with objectives, and sensory, social and communication support.
Mary has achileved a master's degree in Social Work from Stony Brook University and is completing the BCBA program at Penn State University. She is affiliated with the National Association of Special Education Teachers.
