Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
(HBOT)
The Northport Wellness Center is proud to announce our affiliation with Hyperbarics of Great Neck, PC as they are an outstanding facility that provides Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.
What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment that saturates the body with 100% pure oxygen under pressure. The cells of the body are saturated with oxygen to a far greater degree than they ever would become naturally.
How Does HBOT Work?
During therapy, the patient breathes pure, 100% oxygen under increased atmospheric pressure. (The air we normally breathe contains only 19-21% of this essential element.)The concentration of oxygen normally dissolved in the bloodstream is thus raised many times above normal (up to 2000%). In addition to the blood, all body fluids including the lymph and cerebrospinal fluids are infused with healing benefits of this molecular oxygen. It can reach bone and tissues that are inaccessible to the red blood cells, enhance white blood cell function, and promote the formation of new capillary and peripheral blood vessels. All of this results in faster healing of a wide range of conditions.
HBOT uses a chamber that increases the atmospheric pressure 2 or 3 times, thus expose the patient's entire body to the pressurized oxygen. It is used to treat a wide range of conditions, with new applications being researched on a continual basis. There are currently 13 conditions treatable with Hyperbarics that are approved by the FDA in the US. However, there are numerous "off-label" uses for Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, many of which are documented with scientific evidence that is stronger than that of the FDA approved conditions. Nearly all medical clinics, doctor's offices, and hospitals use FDA-approved drugs and medical devices for "off-label" use on a consistent basis. FDA allows "off-label" use of approved medical devices that have scientific data supporting their use under the supervision of a licensed physician.
