Podiatry: Arthroscopic and Laser Surgery

Arthroscopic and laser surgeries can be used to both diagnose and treat many foot and ankle conditions. Traditional open procedures may still be required for more complex conditions, but new technologies are quickly becoming more and more versatile.

Arthroscopy is especially effective in treating joint conditions because of the complete detailed view of the area it provides. This technique can be used to:

  • Repair torn cartilage
  • Remove an inflamed lining
  • Repair torn ligaments
  • Remove loose bones or cartilage

Endoscopic procedures similar to arthroscopy are used for chronic plantar fasciitis. Laser surgery can be used to treat skin and nail disorders with little to no side effects. Laser technology uses high intensity beams of light to treat the targeted areas and remove abnormal growths. Some of the conditions commonly treated with laser surgery include:

  • Fungal infections
  • Warts
  • Ingrown toenails
  • Neuromas
  • Tumors
  • Lesions

Lasers do not damage the surrounding areas and are often painless, resulting in a safe and simple procedure with short recovery time.
