What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique used to reduce stress and encourage relaxation, thus promoting healing physically, emotionally and spiritually. Reiki helps to enhance the body’s natural healing abilities, as well as to improve and maintain health.

The word Reiki is comprised of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy."

The philosophy of Reiki is based on the premise that the life force energy will flow through the Reiki healer’s hands when they place them on or near a recipient.

What are the benefits of Reiki?

The benefits of Reiki include relaxation, feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Used in conjunction with other techniques, Reiki helps to relieve side effects and promote recovery, thus contributing to the healing of many illnesses and conditions.

What does Reiki feel like?

A Reiki healing treatment is non-invasive and therefore causes no pain. Rather, treatment feels like a wondrous luminescence that flows through and around the body. As with other holistic therapies, Reiki treats the whole person - body, mind and soul.

History of Reiki

Almost one-century-old, the Usui System of Reiki was developed in 1922 by Dr. Mikao Usui. Dr. Usui discovered this healing art during a mysticial experience on Mt. Kurama, a sacred mountain north of Kyoto, Japan. A few months later he started a Reiki organization called the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai who's purpose was to practice and teach Reiki. Since then, Reiki has been used throughout the world to treat individuals who seek not only to heal but to be enlightened and inspired, as well.
