Mariel Nasis-Matuza, MS, RN, CPNP, provides functional medical care for pediatric patients. She works primarily with children challenged with Autism and developmental delays. Mariel's goal is to assist parents in helping their child achieve and maintain optimal health.

“Meeting families ‘wherever they are’ on their journey can be challenging at times, but once parents ‘get it,’ it truly is a job well done to see them feel empowered!” — Mariel Nasis-Matuza, MS, RN, CPNP

Specializing in integrative and functional medicine, Mariel thinks outside of the box and looks for root causes of symptoms typically seen in children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. In order to provide the best care for your child, Mariel treats the whole child, not just the symptoms. A large part of her interactions with parents focus on diet and nutrition, emphasizing the body-mind-spirit connection.

As a certified pediatric nurse practitioner, Mariel is uniquely positioned to offer varied treatments for autistic and developmentally delayed patients based on their special individual needs. After taking a thorough medical history, doing a complete physical exam and interpreting lab work, recommendations may include a combination of dietary changes and supplementation. In addition, other modalities such as intravenous (IV) therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, infrared sauna and neurofeedback are also available. When appropriate and if needed, pharmacological treatments/prescriptions can be ordered.

Mariel's philosophy on health and wellness is "Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food." ~Hippocrates

Biography
Pediatrics has always been a passion for Mariel. Following the birth of her 4th son, she returned to school for her second undergraduate degree as a registered nurse from Farmingdale State University. She continued her education, earning a Master of Science from Stony Brook University and certification from the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB). She had the privilege of caring for the most acute children in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Winthrop Hospital (now NYU Langone).

Mariel has also cared for medically complex, fragile children in long-term care facilities in Queens and Yonkers. She has embraced the holistic approach in healthcare, treating the whole child, not just the symptoms. She enjoys empowering and educating parents so they can be their child's best advocate!

Caring for her patients and their families is a priority for Mariel. So is giving back. As treasurer for the Fairy Godmother Foundation of NY, a non-profit organization founded in loving memory of one of her patients, Mariel is honored to serve on a board with members dedicated to improving the quality of life of individuals living with medical, physical, mental health or developmental challenges, as she aims to help make dreams come true!

In addition to serving on the board of the Fairy Godmother Foundation, Mariel has also served as President of the Long Island Chapter of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP), as well as Flotilla Staff Officer of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.
