Woodbury, New York—April 18, 2017—The Northport Wellness Center's affiliate, Hyperbaric Medical Solutions (HMS), is pleased to announce that Alan Katz, MD, FACEP, FAAEM, UHM/ABEM has been named Medical Director. Dr. Katz previously worked as Director of Quality Assurance for the Department of Hyperbaric Medicine at Withrop Hospital in Mineola, New York. In addition to leading the HMS clinical team and providing clinical services, Dr. Katz will use his extensive background and experience in hyperbaric medicine to lead HMS' research efforts.

The addition of Dr. Katz could not have come at a better time. In 2016 alone, HMS oversaw more than 6,500 treatments among its three locations—Woodbury, Medford, and Manhattan. That number is expected to increase at least 20 percent by the end of this year. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Henry Prince expressed excitement about bringing in Dr. Katz, saying, “As one of only a small number of board certified hyperbaric physicians in the U.S., Dr. Katz is a true expert in the field. We will undoubtedly rely on his extensive knowledge and experience, both from a clinical and operational standpoint, to meet our mission of providing HBOT to all who may benefit.”

The independent provider of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) utilizes the powerful affects of HBOT to help treat those suffering from diabetic lower extremity wounds, delayed radiation injuries, failed skin grafts and flaps, and other conditions. Also as an independent provider of HBOT, HMS has the flexibility and opportunity to provide care to a wider patient population and conduct new research. On this point, Dr. Katz says, “One of the things I’m most excited about is the opportunity to expand this tremendously underutilized medical treatment. I’m especially thrilled to lead research initiatives at HMS using HBOT for post-concussion syndrome (traumatic brain injury), and other inflammatory processes.”
