Acupuncture, a traditional Chinese medical practice dating back more than 3,500 years, is often used to help those suffering a variety of ailments today. Some people may feel a bit apprehensive about trying this ancient holistic treatment, as it involves needles, but truly, acupuncture is not only safe but effective in addressing many conditions.

Acupuncture is administered by a licensed acupuncturist. Strategically inserting very small, thin needles into your body can assist in easing discomfort and restoring balance to the body’s energy flow, and improve your overall wellness.

Acupuncture Treats Many Conditions

There are a wide range of conditions that acupuncture could positively impact.

For example, people who suffer from spine and joint issues, such as arthritis, neck pain, herniated discs, fibromyalgia, sciatica, and scoliosis, may feel relief after receiving acupuncture. According to a 2016 report by government researchers at the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health cited by NBC News, studies suggest a relationship between acupuncture, other natural treatments, and a decrease in back pain and improvement in osteoarthritis of the knee.

Acupuncture has also shown promise in helping concussion patients. A 2015 study in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine and shared by the U.S. National Library of Medicine examined concussion recovery in a 31-year old woman. Following two and a half weeks of acupuncture treatments, spinal manipulation, and soft tissue therapies, the patient noticed improvements in her symptoms. While more research is required, results such as these show potential.

A 2013 report in the journal, Medical Acupuncture, also shared by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, reviewed six studies examining the use of acupuncture in pregnant women who exhibited signs of depression. It concluded that there is evidence that this holistic technique could reduce or even eliminate these symptoms, though more research is necessary to provide further support.
