Biography

Dr. Marissa Zimmerman was trained by Dr. Cheryl Berger Israeloff in 2016, in the diagnosis and treatment of Binocular Vision Dysfunction, including Superior Oblique Palsy and Vertical Heterophoria.

Dr. Zimmerman’s neurovisual evaluation can precisely measure binocular misalignments. These misalignments that can cause headaches, dizziness, and neck pain are treated with microprism lenses; specialized prismatic lenses are prescribed to help to alleviate these symptoms.

Dr. Zimmerman sees children as young as three years old, adults, and special needs patients. Binocular Vision Dysfunction is greatly overlooked in the younger population, as most doctors only evaluate the patient’s visual acuity and ocular health.

At the Neuro Visual Center of New York, Dr. Zimmerman spends extensive time testing how the two eyes work together, which can greatly impact reading and other areas of learning. A vast majority of Dr. Zimmerman’s patients are referred to her by pediatricians, concussion specialists, neurologists, and vestibular therapists.

Dr. Marissa Zimmerman is a graduate of Muhlenberg College, with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. She continued on to SUNY State College Of Optometry, graduating Beta Sigma Kappa in 2013. Before joining the Neuro Visual Center Of New York, she practiced primary care, specializing in children three years old and up.

Dr. Zimmerman is a wife and mother of three children. She enjoys hiking, exercising, and spending time with her family.
