Northport Wellness Center Alliance Members and Occupational Therapists Patricia Rutledge OTR/L and her daughter, Sara Pereira MS,OTR/L, founded Sensational Development Occupational Therapy in 2009. Sensational Development is a pediatric occupational therapy practice with two locations, one in Massapequa and a satellite office in East Northport.
Sensational Development was created as a place where children can feel safe and welcomed and parents can be educated on the areas of development that are impacting their child's day to day activities.
Sara and Patti saw the need for private occupational therapy services within their community and created a place that could help children and parents grow and thrive. They understand the importance of working with the child’s whole team to support the development of the child and the parents’ journey.
In addition to their individual OT sessions, Sensational Development provides enrichment groups, pop-up groups for school breaks and yoga classes in their Massapequa location, as well as other groups (craft, fitness, etc.) for teens and young adults. Individual OT sessions are provided at the East Northport location.
Sensational Development is actively involved in the community. They provide SEPTA presentations for various districts, in-services for teachers and staff.
Philosophy of Health and Wellness
Sara and Patti are proud of all the staff at Sensational Development. Their caring staff embraces the values and philosophies of Sensational Development and utilizes a holistic approach in working with the child and their family.
All therapists at Sensational Development understand the importance of looking at the whole child and using a family centered approach. Each child is unique and respected for their own personality and through intervention, are guided to develop their sense of self. Children begin OT at their level of development and through play and engagement we watch each child grow and learn skills that were so hard for them. The therapists at Sensational Development help to educate parents on all aspects of a child’s physical and mental well being.
